Help Create Courses for the Hub

The Teacher Learning Hub’s course offerings are expanding! OPI is looking for educators interested in sharing their content expertise and becoming course designers to help create and build online courses for Montana teachers.

New courses will cover a variety of subject areas including ELA, Math, Science, IEFA, World Language, technology, general school issues, mental health and more. To become part of the team of available course designers and content experts, you must successfully complete the “Course Designer Training.”  This training has two components: an online course to be completed on your own, followed by an in-person meeting in Helena. Stipends and travel reimbursements will be available for the meeting.  In addition, course designers and content experts may be paid on a per-course basis for future course development. If you are interested or want more information please fill out the course designer application. Contact Jessica (jbryant3@mt.gov) with any questions.

Announcement 2:  NCWIT Award for high school girls
Dear MCTM teacher,

This is the 5th year!

For a number of years, the NCWIT (National Center for Women and Information Technology) has given national awards to high school girls.  The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing is for young women with aspirations and achievements in technology and computing.

This year will be the fifth year that there also will be a MONTANA contest for Montana girls.  The time to submit applications is Sept. 1 through November 7 and the application is found at

There are many qualified high school girls that would apply if they just had a little push from a leader like you. Any interested female high school student would need to fill in the on-line application, and get a parent and a school official to approve it to be entered into both the national and Montana contests.

We have had winners from high schools in Anaconda, Arlee, Beaverhead County, Bozeman, Cascade, Cut Bank, Helena Capital, Helena High, Missoula Big Sky, Missoula Sentinel, Noxon, Park County and Whitefish High School.  We hope your school will be represented on the winners list this year. But girls have to apply.

We are looking forward to recognizing Montana's talent, and hope that you would encourage the young women that you know to apply. Sometimes all they need is a little encouragement and you are the person to provide that.

Thank you,
Steve Harper and Ted Wendt
