UM Math Day

This year the date and time for Math Day is Friday, October 7, 2016, 8:30-2:00PM.  The event will again be held on the University of Montana campus in the Gallagher Business Building.  If you plan to come to Math Day this year, please register at hs.umt.edu/mathday.  Registration is limited to 250, register early to save your spot.

As in the past, Math Day is comprised of a variety of hands-on workshops on topics that are not typically included in the K-12 curriculum.  Cryptography, 3D printing, fractals, and the sizes of infinity are examples of workshops that have been featured in the past.  Our activities and topics are chosen to excite students about mathematics and to motivate them to learn more mathematics. We encourage all students in grades 9-12 who have an interest in mathematics to attend (if you have an 8th grader who is interested in attending, please contact us).  Each student will experience three different workshops and a panel discussion which will feature UM scientists discussing the importance of mathematics in their work. Math Day offers students the opportunity to learn mathematics from University professors, share lunch in the University dining room and experience University life.  More information about Math Day can be found at our website:  hs.umt.edu/mathday. Math Day is sponsored by a grant from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).

Please let us know if you have questions at mathcircle@mso.umt.edu . We thank you for your efforts directed towards promoting and participating in this unique opportunity that enriches the mathematical experience of hundreds of students each year.

Best,

Kelly McKinnie, Jenny McNulty, Fred Peck and Matt Roscoe
